What does all that mean in plain English?
As we grow older, we tend to need a bit of help and support as a result of medical diagnosis or general wear and tear on our bodies.
There are a number of things which we can do/access to help us to remain independent in our own homes.
Care is not a cheap process. Residential care is in excess of £1000 per week and it seems to increase further if you are a self funder (own your own property)
To help prepare for older age and the conditions that come with it there are a number of processes which can help with how later life may look for you.
Attendance Allowance is a benefit which you may be entitled to. It is worth up to £5300 per year. It is tax free and non means tested. You have paid into this process throughout your working life. See our Attendance Allowance page for more info.
Lasting Powers of Attorney. This is a legal process to protect you and your wishes, whilst you are still alive. You give your voice and powers to trusted family/loved ones/friends to legally support you. It is especially important to have if you want to remain living in your own home. Decisions can be made to put you in residential care against your wishes if you don't have an LPA.

Wills are the legal process of deciding where/how you wish to be estate and assets to be distributed when you are no longer here. There are a number of reasons for doing wills. You may want a relative to benefit from your estate, it may be for tax reasons or to protect certain family members. Wills can be complex or simple. The important factor with wills is that they do what you want them to. If poorly worded, wills can fail. It will be too late for you to do anything about it at this stage. We recommend reviewing your will every 3 to 5 years.
Everyone is individual. It is up to you how you plan for the future.
Our guidance to consider is to not leave some things too late.
Lasting Powers of Attorney are taking over 5 months to return.
